County Court

The Washington County Court is located at the Washington County Municipal Center in Fort Edward, NY

The organization of county courts varies from county to county.  Washington County has two judges designated as County Court Judges.   However, the responsibilities of the two respective courts are divided:  one part handles all the felony cases in Washington County (misdemeanors are handled at the local level), along with civil lawsuits.   This seat is currently filled by Judge Kelly S. McKeighan.

The other part is Family Court, and is sometimes referred to as such.  This seat is now vacant.  It was held by Judge Stanley L. Pritzker, who resigned in January following his election last November to the New York State Supreme Court, 4th Judicial District.

Both judges are Surrogates, which is the judicial management of estates.

Although the two judges have their areas of responsibility, they are from time to time required to cover for each other, and handle criminal or family court responsiblities.

The chambers of the county courts are at the Washington County Municipal Center in Fort Edward.
